Sometimes you need an electric jolt to awaken from an eclectic slumber.
It was almost midnight. The needles of my wrist-watch lazily trudged round the dial to converge at the number twelve. I switched off the lights with my out-stretched arm and tucked my hair behind my ears, ready to end yet another disheartening day. The cold breeze from outside gushed into my room through the open windows. Although, my ocular senses seemed shut due to the darkness, my eyes were wide open. After an invariably vain attempt at staring into darkness, my idle mind began to wander about the much debated human-machine relationship.
I have studied science with an optimum interest, so far. Every discovery in science has been a marvel, unmatched. New fields have been explored and new devices have been developed. However, most of these discoveries must have derived inspiration from the make-up of the maker himself. Most of everything that I have been acquainted to in the subject of my choice, electronics and communication has already been largely used by every man on earth, from time immemorial. A majority of the men who use these techniques are largely ignorant of its significance. The grey level quantization techniques used by night vision cameras and other image capturing and processing devices have already been intricately comprehended and adopted by the human eye. So are the modulation and demodulation techniques. The human brain can however be treated as an infinitely large repository for data of every kind that can be intercepted by the human eye, ear, touch etc. the storage space for this cache however is concise and mostly uniform, independent of its altering capacity.
Although, science can successfully duplicate every human trait, it fails miserably in impregnating a box or a test-tube with man’s most priced possession, his emotions. Faith, hope, despair, love, hatred, friendship, care, sensuality, pride, praise, mirth, distress and the list goes endless. Human emotions have played remarkable roles and are solely responsible for births and deaths. Expression of emotions is an essential cleansing process for the inner self. A man devoid of his emotions is a mere machine programmed to sit, eat, sleep, read, write etc. The essence of life lies in the mysterious turn-out of events and the impromptu emotions that seem to take shape in the human mind. Expression of these emotions can mend or mar hearts. A little bit of encouragement could stir a whole new wave of emotions that could drive a failure to the stands of success. The ‘I can do it’ attitude can be demonstrated only by us, the humans. We never shun our tasks due to power failures or display a system error message due to lack of data. We truce our way through every difficult situation, trying diligently to arrive at a much positive conclusion. Man has always been superior to machines. Irrespective of how much superior he is to machines, he is not and can never be superior to other primates of the same order.
